IBIZA, the place to be?

We have been visiting Ibiza for years now and that’s where our inspiration comes from.

We go to Ibiza for the peace, the nature and the local people.
Our youngest daughter Chloë lives and works on Ibiza, which is a good reason for us to visit regulary.

Ibiza speaks to the life of the hippies. You don’t need much to have a good life!

The history of the hippies on Ibiza dates back to the 1960s and 70s, when the island became a refuge for artists, musicians, and rebels who were rebelling against the established order. It began in the early 1960s when a number of young people from Europe and the US came to the island in search of freedom, spirituality, and alternative lifestyles.

Ibiza was seen as a place to escape the materialistic world and create a commune-like atmosphere.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, more and more hippies came to Ibiza, especially to the northern part of the island, where they settled in communes and small communities. They sought a connection with nature, freedom of expression, and experimented with psychedelic music, art, and drugs. Ibiza became a symbolic destination for the counterculture movement.

The hippie movement on Ibiza thrived until the mid-1970s when tourism began to increase and the island became more popular.

This led to a shift in the culture, with the original spiritual and alternative values gradually being replaced by
commercial tourism, but the influence of the hippie culture remained evident, particularly in the island’s music and nightlife.

In recent years, Ibiza has unfortunately been very busy in the summer. Out of season, the island relaxes and then is the island wonderfully quiet.

In the summer there are nice Hippie markets on Ibiza:
- Las Dalias
- Punta Arabi (Es Canar)
- Sant Jordi (flea market)

When you are on Ibiza, you have to visit these pleasant Hippie markets.

The statue was made by Catalan sculptor Ció Abelli and was donated to Ibiza Town in 2016 by Ricardo Urgell, the founder of Pacha, as a tribute to the hippies.
